The Ondo State Government has directed all electricity contractors, developers, and service providers to obtain prior approval from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources before carrying out any installations, constructions, or extensions, particularly those located along public road right-of-ways.

This directive, issued through the Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau (OSERB) under Regulatory Order No: OSERB/RO/2025/102/199, takes immediate effect. It was signed by the State Coordinator, Engr. Stephen Olugbenga Bolawole, FNSE.

According to the Bureau, the measure is designed to ensure public safety, prevent haphazard development, and promote effective coordination of electricity infrastructure across the state. The Order was made pursuant to the Ondo State Electric Power Sector Law 2020, the Electricity Act 2023, and the amended Constitution, which empower states to regulate electricity operations within their jurisdictions.

Engr. Bolawole ordered that all ongoing electricity projects along public road right-of-ways be suspended until the necessary approvals and safety certifications are obtained from the Ministry.

He further warned that any violations of the directive would attract strict sanctions, including the dismantling of unauthorized installations and possible prosecution of offenders.

To ensure compliance, the OSERB Task Force has been mandated to commence enforcement across all local government areas in the state to protect lives and property from unsafe electricity practices.
