AREGBESOLA URGES INEC TO FULLY EMBRACE TECHNOLOGY FOR FASTER, TRANSPARENT ELECTION RESULTS
Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has said that Nigerians should be able to receive election results within three hours if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fully adopts modern technology in the electoral process.
Aregbesola stated this during a panel discussion on Innovation in Electoral Technology (2015–2025), where he highlighted how countries like Brazil, Venezuela, Israel, and Ghana have successfully used technology to ensure quicker and more transparent election outcomes.
He called on INEC to be more transparent about its result transmission system and demonstrate how its monitoring module operates, questioning the reasons behind persistent delays in result announcements despite technological tools already in place.
The former Minister of Interior also urged the judiciary to respect the people’s mandate in election-related cases, emphasizing that the courts should not override the collective will of the electorate.
