AKEREDOLU BACKS GOVERNOR AIYEDATIWA, WARNS APC MEMBERS AGAINST DIVISION IN ONDO

Political discourse in Ondo State took a new turn at the weekend as a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Akeredolu O.N., openly declared support for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa while cautioning party members against what he described as acts of disloyalty.
In a statement as at press time, Dr. Akeredolu said he had chosen to remain silent on recent controversies surrounding Minister of Interior, Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo (BTO), but noted that attacks on the governor by some of the minister’s supporters were misguided.
He predicted that those aligning against Governor Aiyedatiwa would eventually regret their stance, insisting that the governor would not only complete his current tenure but also play a key role in determining his successor in 2029.
“The governorship that is causing issues in Ondo APC cannot go to the Northern Senatorial District in 2028. When we get to the bridge, we will cross it,” he stated, while urging political actors to seek divine guidance in their ambitions.
Dr. Akeredolu also referenced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s long-standing support for rotational arrangements in Lagos State, arguing that such political balance would not be ignored in Ondo State.
“Those who are queuing behind the young minister have committed the greatest political error of their lives. Time will tell, but he will soon understand politics. The jobless politicians are only using him to survive,” he added.
He further emphasized that Governor Aiyedatiwa remained the leader of the party and the state, pledging his unflinching loyalty to the administration.
The remarks come amid growing speculations of divisions within the Ondo APC over future governorship permutations, even as party leaders continue to call for unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
